Artificial intelligence and transparency

Last updated: September 17, 2026

This page is also available in Italian, French, Spanish and German. In the event of any discrepancy, the Italian version prevails.

MuseoGuida uses artificial intelligence to help museums and cultural venues prepare their audio guides. This page explains what it does, what it does not do and how we comply with the European Artificial Intelligence Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, the “AI Act”).

What AI does in MuseoGuida

  • Rewrites the texts provided by the museum for listening: notes, catalogue records, older texts.
  • Translates approved descriptions into the museum's active languages, following a glossary defined by the museum.
  • Reads approved descriptions with a synthetic voice, in the plans that include it.

What it does not do

  • It does not make things up. It only uses the information contained in the material provided. When information is missing (an author, a date), it reports the gap instead of filling it.
  • It publishes nothing on its own. Every text, translation or audio produced with AI remains a proposal, not visible to visitors, until a member of the museum staff reads or listens to it and explicitly approves its publication.
  • It never starts on its own. Content is generated only at the request of a museum user.
  • It does not process visitor data. Only the texts submitted by the museum are sent to artificial intelligence services.

Human review and responsibility

Approval is an explicit step: whoever approves sees the text or listens to the audio and confirms publication. MuseoGuida records who approved and when, and keeps the history of every version. It also records how much of the content went through AI. Editorial responsibility for published content remains with the museum.

Transparency towards visitors

  • Audio read by a synthetic voice is marked in the visitor guide, in the language of the track, with the label “AI-generated audio”.
  • The guide includes an information section on the use of artificial intelligence.

Museum control

Artificial intelligence features can be switched off for each museum, for example for institutions that do not authorise external AI services. The platform remains fully usable without them.
